Located in the heart of San Francisco’s vibrant North Beach neighborhood, Stella Pastry is a charming pastry shop renowned for its authentic Italian baked goods and delectable coffee offerings. Nestled at 446 Columbus Ave, this cozy spot is a true haven for anyone with a sweet tooth or a craving for expertly crafted desserts.
Stella Pastry’s menu is a celebration of classic Italian flavors combined with an artisanal touch. Standout confections such as their famous Tiramisu 7x10 Cake and the indulgent Chocolate Truffle 8" Cake offer decadence in every bite. Their Cannoli Siciliani are especially praised for striking the perfect balance between sweet and creamy, making them far from overly sugary and delightfully fresh. Other must-tries include the Sacripantina, a sponge cake soaked in rum and layered with delicate zabaione cream, which quickly wins admirers for its light yet flavorful profile.
Beyond cakes and pastries, Stella offers a varied selection of treats such as Blueberry Cheesecake, Strawberry Shortcake, Mixed Berry Tart, and the elegant Napoleon Puf. Coffee lovers will appreciate their expertly prepared espresso and cappuccino, which perfectly complement the sweets. It’s this harmony of robust coffee and delicate pastries that brings customers back time and again.
Many patrons highlight the welcoming atmosphere of the shop despite its modest size. While seating can be limited during peak times, the warm, attentive service makes every visit pleasant. One customer, Katie Diaz, recalled her visit saying, “The tiramisu had a strong coffee taste but was overall really good. My favorite was the cannoli – not too sweet, just perfect.” Another satisfied visitor, Richard G., praised both the pastries and coffee, describing the cappuccino as “strong with dense foam, not bitter,” and the chocolate truffle slice as “dense and delicious,” even earning his friend’s accolade as the “best chocolate anything” they’d tried on their trip.
Stella Pastry is also highly regarded for its excellent value. Sarina Iwai noted the reasonable slice sizes and prices, especially for the indulgent Sacripantina. Jack shared his surprise and delight at the Japanese-style strawberry cake, highlighting its subtly sweet frosting, which set it apart from heavier traditional versions. The staff's patient and friendly approach, answering numerous questions, rounds out the shop’s inviting vibe.
In sum, Stella Pastry captures the essence of Italian baking with finesse and authenticity. Whether you crave a perfectly layered cake for a celebration or a simple but exquisite cream puff to accompany your coffee, Stella Pastry delivers a memorable and satisfying experience that celebrates craftsmanship and genuine flavor. For an intimate taste of Italy in San Francisco, this pastry shop is a sweet destination you won’t want to miss.

Very good pastries. We stopped in for the tiramisu - the coffee taste was pretty strong but overall good. My favorite was the cannoli. Not too sweet. It was perfect.
Ordered tiramisu and their sacripantina. Both super solid and delicious- sacripantina is a lot more cream focused with a vanilla flavoring which I did enjoy and their size was pretty reasonable for their price (around $7 per slice)! Pretty small place so might not get seating when it’s packed but good cake stop when craving one!
An adequate space to have coffee and dessert in the North Beach area in San Francisco aka Little Italy was a very good experience. Mind you I’ve had their tiramisu before but this is the first time I’ll have them at their shop. Lots of really good & yummy selection but I want to have the one that’s already been tested…the tiramisu….and as always it didn’t fail. If you want authentic best tasting tiramisu….Stella is the place! I went 6pm on a Thursday night and all the tables inside were occupied which is a good sign. That said I had to use 1 of the 2 outdoor tables which I didn’t mind. I would’ve opted for it anyway. Next target…their cream puff! I can’t wait to come back again this time with friends! There was only 1 person working but service was still a delight.
Went to South Bay to grab a Japanese strawberry cake, but they ran out, so when we were back in SF, we saw this place on Google and decided to grab a strawberry cake from here. I was pleasantly surprised. The frosting is not heavily sweet like other bakeries. It tasted just like the Japanese cakes that I’ve gotten. The staff was really nice and patient with us asking many questions. I would stop by again for other cakes.
Bought two pastries and a single cappuccino. The sacripantina was delicious. Light consistency, easy to eat, but great flavor. The chocolate truffle slice was dense and delicious. A friend told me it was the "best chocolate anything" he's had on this trip while happily choking on the cocoa powder. The single shot cappuccino was strong with dense foam, not bitter. 10/10, highly recommend.
Mixed Berry Tart > Tiramisu > Fedora Slice Everything was really enjoyable, and I don’t think you could go wrong with any three of these dishes. My main complaint is that I thought the presence of coffee was very light in the tiramisu, but this may be better for people who are planning on having this as a late-night snack. Also the bottom of the tart was semi-frozen, but the top of this tart was absolutely delectable.
All of the pastries are very good. Tiramisu is my favorite. I love the coffee as well. Can’t wait to come back for more.
